Chichester High School for Girls
The electrical works to this site were carried out during 2002 and 2003. The £1,000,000 contract was awarded on a 'design and build' basis.
New Administration building
The existing campus is for boys and girls. Part of the criteria for the works was to create separate teaching and administration spaces.
The project included the construction of a number of new buildings across the site, together with the redevelopment of some existing buildings.
New buildings included a new Administration Block, a new Gym and Dance Studio and a three-storey teaching block. The latter building includes science labs, IT rooms, textiles room, domestic science rooms together with design and technology workshops. The Dance Studio includes a stage lighting dimmer system and an audio system.
Domestic science room being fitted out
Works to the existing buildings include an extension to the sixth form building, conversion of the old science labs, design technology workshops and home economics rooms into new IT suites. The old gymnasium is to be converted into the new girls school library. A gallery with common room and two classrooms has been added above the changing areas in the existing sports hall.
It was also a requirement to split the services to the boys and girls schools. The site was electrically fed by one transformer which was suffering from overload problems as additional loads had been added over the years. Part of our commission was to carry out load surveys and design new site wide distribution independently for each school.
New three storey teaching block nearing completion
The girls school is now fed by a 700kva transformer with a feeder pillar serving a number of remote buildings. Supplies to the original main building have been increased to allow capacity for future air-conditioning in the IT suites.
An Apollo analogue-addressable fire alarm system with automatic smoke detection has been installed across the site to the new buildings. The systems have been networked and interfaced with the existing fire alarm systems in the original buildings. The fire alarm network has been utilised to provide site-wide class-change bell ringing across the girls school, replacing the individual timers in each building.
